WHAT'S INVOLVED IN PLAYING AERODROMEŽ 1.1?
Basically having fun. What you're doing is "flying" your aircraft around the board, according to a set of specific rules that govern your ability to maneuver, change altitude and shoot at your opponents. The game (and it *is* a game, not a simulation) is easy to learn, fast and easy to play, and a LOT of fun. Plus, many AerodromeŽ 1.1 GameMasters now have awards for successful players, including "wings" and medals; and a national system of ranks and awards is in the works for AerodromeŽ 1.1 players countrywide.

WHAT SCALE IS AERODROMEŽ 1.1?
AerodromeŽ 1.1 is actually scale-independent; it can be played with aircraft models ranging from 1/300 scale up to 1/48th scale (if someone has the space for that!) However, it is most often played in 1/72nd scale, using painting 1/72nd scale WW1 model airplanes, on a 4' x 6' playing mat marked with 5" hexes and with aircraft "flightstands" with 5" hexagonal bases. That scale and playing area is of reasonable size and provides a striking visual spectacle; and 1/72nd scale WW1 aircraft models are readily available.

DOES AERODROMEŽ 1.1 COME IN A "BOXED SET"?
Not yet. The equipment used to play AerodromeŽ 1.1 is currently sold separately, and everything is available except the aircraft models themselves. Most AerodromeŽ 1.1 aficianados build and paint (and otherwise customize) their own aircraft models; however, at conventions and many club meetings, the GameMaster will usually have aircraft models and all the other equipment available for players to use.

HOW MUCH EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO PLAY?
At the very least you need a playing surface marked in hexagons (such as the AerodromeŽ 1.1 playing mat, although a home-made mat would also work) and a copy of the rules; the rest depends largely on the number of players.
AerodromeŽ 1.1 is best played with a minimum of four aircraft (although the more, the merrier, of course); they can be flown by two players (controlling two aircraft each), but four aircraft is really the minimum needed for a fun game. For each aircraft in play you will need
A suitable aircraft model
A flightstand (base plus antenna combo) on which to mount the aircraft to maneuver it around the playing surface
A Control Panel of some sort for programming maneuvers, altitude and machine gun fire (if necessary, a home-made paper record would do)
One ten-sided die (D10) and one twenty-sided die (D20)
For new players, a copy of the Quick Reference Sheet is useful; two players (on the same side) can certainly share a single Quick Reference Sheet. And each player should have something, such as an AerodromeŽ 1.1 Datacard, showing the specific characteristics of the aircraft that the player is controlling.
